Discover Glendyne

Every step of the process is optimized to produce the best quality slate as efficiently as possible.

The History of Our Slate

Glendyne Inc. is in Saint-Marc-du-Lac-Long, Quebec, Canada. The deposit is of exceptional quality due to the fine schistosity and the purity of the slate. The deposit was discovered during the construction of the Transcontinental Railway in the early 20th century. It was initially operated by Europeans, but this exploitation ceased a few years later due to the First World War and the Canadian government’s effort to support European allies. In 1995, activities resumed thanks to a group of local entrepreneurs.

Our Slate Deposit

Our slate is dark grey with shades of blue; its shades are very homogeneous despite the presence of a discrete stratification marked by silts which are usually very fine, they don’t affect the schistosity of the slate. Because of the area’s northern climate, the surface alteration is very little. Glendyne slate is proud to be able to deliver a superior quality slate.

Besides having modern and powerful machinery to extract slate blocks and transport them to the nearby plant, Glendyne has developed unique working methods allowing to continue its activities even in winter, therefore meeting its customers’ requirements.

Water samples are regularly tested by an accredited laboratory. Also the use of geothermal energy contributes greatly to significant reduction of fossil fuels.

So at Glendyne, the environment is treated with respect and is part of the company’s intrinsic values.
